IKIGAI: THE REASON FOR BEING
The rules of Ikigai
Stay active, don’t retire. Never stop doing what you love. Your purpose should continue throughout your life.
Take it slow. Being in a hurry is inversely proportional to quality of life. As the old saying goes, “Walk slowly and you’ll go far.”
Don’t fill your stomach. Follow the Hara Hachi Bu, or 80% rule. Stop eating when you are almost full to maintain energy and longevity.
Surround yourself with good friends. Build your Moai, or social support group. Friendships are the best medicine for the soul.
Smile. A cheerful attitude makes you and others happy. Acknowledge the things that aren’t perfect, but don’t forget the privilege of being here.
Reconnect with nature. Human beings are made to be part of the natural world. Return to it frequently to recharge your batteries.
Give thanks. To your ancestors, to nature, and to your community. Gratitude is a practice that brightens your days.
Live in the moment. Stop regretting the past or fearing the future. Today is all you have. Make the most of it.
Get in shape. Your body needs daily maintenance to keep it running well. Water flows best when it is moving; so does your health.
Follow your Ikigai. There is a unique talent inside you that gives meaning to your days. If you haven’t found it yet, make it your mission to find it.
